Overview
Management of marine envenoming and penetrating marine injuries may include:
- removal of the venomous creature or its parts
- resuscitation
- other first aid and specific treatments such as hot water immersion, ice packs or vinegar (see First aid for jellyfish stings and First aid for penetrating marine injuries)
- analgesia for penetrating marine injuries
- wound management for penetrating marine injuries, including tetanus prophylaxis and regular follow up of any penetrating injury within 24 to 48 hours
- antivenom in specific cases (eg major box jellyfish (Chironex fleckeri) stings, stonefish injuries, sea snake bites).
