Management of complications of alcohol use
Complications of alcohol dependence that may require management include:
- cirrhosis and its complications such as varices and coagulopathy
- hypertension
- peptic ulcer diseaseHaber, 2021
- malnutrition and malabsorption
- thiamine deficiency; supplementation is required to limit development of peripheral neuropathy and risk of Wernicke encephalopathy
- neuropsychiatric disorders such as acquired brain injury or alcohol-induced mood disorder.
