Beta blockers for rate control of atrial fibrillation
Beta blockers may provide better acute rate control of atrial fibrillation than other drug therapies and are often considered a first-line option. To attain and maintain long-term control of ventricular rate, useHindricks, 2021:
1atenolol 25 mg orally, daily, increasing if required up to 100 mg daily atenolol atenolol atenolol
OR
1metoprolol tartrate 25 mg orally, twice daily, increasing if required up to 100 mg twice daily. metoprolol metoprolol metoprolol
For patients with a left ventricular ejection fraction of 40% or less, use one of the beta blockers recommended for heart failure (carvedilol, bisoprolol, nebivolol or metoprolol succinate) instead of atenolol or metoprolol tartrate—see Beta blockers for HFrEF for dosages.
