Periprocedural risk of bleeding

The periprocedural risk of bleeding is influenced by the location and nature of the procedure, as well as patient-related bleeding risk factors. Consult the patient’s usual medical practitioners, as well as the surgeon or proceduralist to identify procedure- and patient-related risk factors for bleeding.

When assessing periprocedural bleeding risk, consider:

  • the ability to achieve haemostasis
  • the likelihood of the procedure causing a major bleed
  • the clinical consequence of bleeding should it occur.
