Axillae and groin atopic dermatitis

For mild atopic dermatitis in the axillae or groin area, use:

1hydrocortisone 1% ointment topically, once daily until skin is clear hydrocortisone hydrocortisone hydrocortisone

OR

2desonide 0.05% lotion topically, once daily until skin is clear. desonide desonide desonide

If atopic dermatitis does not respond after 7 days, or for severe atopic dermatitis, use a stronger topical corticosteroid for a limited time. Use:

methylprednisolone aceponate (adult, or child 4 months or older) 0.1% ointment or fatty ointment topically, once daily until skin is clear (usually about 7 days). methylprednisolone aceponate methylprednisolone aceponate methylprednisolone aceponate

If the atopic dermatitis does not respond to topical therapy, consider fungal infection and other diagnoses (eg nappy rash). Consider genital dermatitis for dermatitis of the genitalia. See also Lack of response to treatment for dermatitis.
