Face atopic dermatitis

For mild atopic dermatitis on the face, use:

hydrocortisone 1% ointment topically, once daily until skin is clear. hydrocortisone hydrocortisone hydrocortisone

If atopic dermatitis does not respond after 7 days, or for more severe inflammation on the face, use a more potent topical corticosteroid for a limited time before stepping down to hydrocortisone. Use:

methylprednisolone aceponate (adult, or child 4 months or older) 0.1% ointment or fatty ointment topically, once daily for 7 days. methylprednisolone aceponate methylprednisolone aceponate methylprednisolone aceponate

If the skin does not clear or the atopic dermatitis continually recurs soon after clearance, consider other diagnoses (eg periorificial dermatitis, rosacea). Also see Lack of response to treatment of dermatitis.
