Speech interpretation for people with developmental disability
Speech interpretation is sometimes provided by an intermediary support person who is familiar with and able to understand the person’s impaired speech. Speech interpretation should be used with caution, owing to the high potential for errors of interpretation, particularly when the person has severe speech impairments or is unintelligible. Practitioners may use a range of contextual cues and information that they know about the person to help in interpreting unclear speech.
