Environmental modifications
Environmental modifications similar to those used for the ageing general population (eg ramps and rails, mobility aids) may be necessary at an earlier age in people with developmental disability.
Occupational therapists and physiotherapists can give advice on modifying the environment to maximise a person’s function in their home.
For examples of environmental modifications to enhance vision and hearing in people with developmental disability, see Hearing and vision problems in people with developmental disability. For advice on falls prevention, see Falls prevention in people with developmental disability.
