Transition to retirement

As in the general population, it is important to ensure the ageing person with developmental disability has access to social and recreational activities, and is supported to maintain a lifestyle that is as active and stimulating as possible. This may include volunteering, engaging in favourite hobbies or taking up new ones. After retiring from work or ending day programs, it is important that ageing people with developmental disability maintain routine and structure in their day; this should be addressed in their National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) plan. Aged care support may be an alternative funding option.
