Confirm cure of hepatitis C (sustained virological response)
It is important to confirm that cure of hepatitis C has been achieved. Test hepatitis C virus (HCV) RNA using a highly sensitive polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay at least 12 weeks after completion of direct-acting antiviral therapy. An undetectable HCV RNA at this time indicates cure of hepatitis C (sustained virological response [SVR]).
Note: To confirm cure of hepatitis C, test HCV RNA at least 12 weeks after completion of treatment.
For patients who are not cured, retreatment should be considered in all cases where possible—see Treatment of adults who are not cured with first-line therapy for details.
