Which patients to refer for specialist management
Refer or seek expert advice about management in the following patient groups or situations:
- children
- patients with suspected or proven cirrhosis (see Assess for the presence of cirrhosis)
- patients with complex comorbidities including co-infection with hepatitis B or HIV, significant kidney impairment, or other types of liver disease
- previous treatment failure with direct-acting antiviral therapy
- potential drug interactions that cannot be managed in primary care (see drug interactions with direct-acting antiviral drugs).
