Clinical features of trigger finger

Currie, 2022Brozovich, 2019

Trigger finger presents with pain along the first annular ligament (A1) pulley region (distal palm near the metacarpal head) and may progress with crepitus, limited range of movement, painful popping or cracking with movement, or locking in flexion. Symptoms usually begin spontaneously, without a prior history of trauma or change in activity level.

Clinical examination findings include tendon thickening, crepitus with motion, or a palpable tender nodule on the tendon. Some people will present when the digit is locked in flexion.
