Depot medroxyprogesterone
Depot medroxyprogesterone has not been studied for its effect on heavy menstrual bleeding, but it induces amenorrhoea after a year in 50 to 70% of individuals using it for contraception. It requires less user involvement than oral medications as it is injected every 12 weeks, and is an alternative treatment if the LNG-IUD and contraceptive vaginal ring are not suitable.
