Nondrug therapy for vasomotor symptoms of menopause

Placebo-controlled clinical trials of nondrug therapy for vasomotor symptoms of menopause indicate:

  • hypnosis weekly for 5 weeks reduces vasomotor symptoms
  • weight loss in overweight or obese postmenopausal individuals reduces vasomotor symptoms
  • mindfulness-based stress reduction is potentially beneficial
  • stellate ganglion block reduces vasomotor symptoms for 6 months
  • acupuncture, chiropractic intervention, paced respiration, relaxation therapy, yoga, exercise and magnetic therapy are of no benefit.
