Antidote
Antidotal therapy with alcohol dehydrogenase inhibitors, such as ethanol or fomepizole, inhibits the metabolism of isopropyl alcohol. The use of these antidotes is not recommended in isopropyl alcohol poisoning because isopropyl alcohol is the main cause of toxicity, rather than its metabolites. Also, although isopropyl alcohol causes an increase in the osmolar gap, a progressive severe metabolic acidosis does not occur, so the use of antidotes is not required.
