Clinical presentation of cardiac glycoside poisoning from plants
The main effects of cardiac glycoside poisoning from plants are gastrointestinal effects (nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhoea), generalised weakness, hyperkalaemia, drowsiness and cardiac effects (bradycardia, heart block, arrhythmias).
The onset and duration of toxicity is variable depending on the plant form and dose ingested.
