Treatment for cardiac glycoside poisoning from plants

Manage a patient who has ingested plant-derived cardiac glycosides similarly to an acute digoxin poisoning. Offer activated charcoal for gastrointestinal decontamination up to 4 hours after ingestion.

Digoxin-specific immune antibody fragments (digoxin immune Fab) are less effective for cardiac glycoside poisoning from plants and larger doses are required than for digoxin tablet poisoning.
