Folate supplementation for methanol poisoning
Folate supplementation is recommended for treatment of methanol poisoning because folate is a cofactor in the metabolism of formic acid, a toxic acid metabolite of methanol, to nontoxic metabolites. Calcium folinate (also known as folinic acid or leucovorin) is first-line therapy. For adults and children, use:
1calcium folinate 50 mg intravenously, every 6 hours for 2 days toxic alcohol poisoning - methanol and ethylene glycol calcium folinate
OR
2 folic acid 50 mg intravenously, every 6 hours for 2 days. toxic alcohol poisoning - methanol and ethylene glycol
