Treatment for hyperthermia

In neuroleptic malignant syndrome, severity of hyperthermia is correlated with mortality.

For hyperthermia (temperature more than 39ºC or rapidly rising) associated with neuroleptic malignant syndrome, urgently start rapid cooling techniques. Hyperthermic patients, despite having raised blood pressure and tachycardia, are usually volume depleted. The first-line treatment is cold intravenous fluid therapy. For detailed advice on cooling, see Cooling for drug-associated hyperthermia.
