Clinical presentation
Tiagabine is rapidly absorbed. Onset of toxicity is expected within hours of ingestion, and resolution of symptoms is anticipated within 12 to 24 hours.
Effects of tiagabine poisoning include:
- central nervous system effects
- lethargy, dizziness, confusion, agitation, tremors, abnormal posturing, rigidity
- myoclonus, seizures (convulsive and nonconvulsive, status epilepticus)
- CNS depression (altered conscious state ranging from drowsiness to coma)
- postpoisoning encephalopathy (after large ingestions)
- cardiovascular effects—tachycardia, bradycardia with hypertension
- other effects— nausea, profuse vomiting, hypersalivation, sweating.
