Toxic dose

In adults, ingestions of up to 100 mg of olanzapine can cause drowsiness, urinary retention and anticholinergic delirium that can last for several days. Ingestions of between 100 to 300 mg of olanzapine can cause deeper sedation and agitation. Ingestions of more than 300 mg of olanzapine can cause coma and hypotension.

Children and other people who are treatment-naive to olanzapine can experience more marked toxicity due to poisoning. Drug-naive children who have ingested more than 0.4 mg/kg of olanzapine need to be observed in hospital—see Potential toxic doses of some antipsychotic drugs in drug-naive children for potential toxic doses of some antipsychotic drugs in drug-naive children.
