Enhanced elimination
Urinary alkalinisation is not used for most herbicide poisonings, but may be useful in chlorophenoxy herbicide poisoning. Discuss with a clinical toxicologist.
Haemodialysis may be indicated in severe herbicide poisonings, in particular paraquat poisoning. Indications include acute kidney failure, metabolic acidosis and hyperkalaemia. Elimination of the herbicide may not be greatly enhanced. Discuss the potential benefits of haemodialysis with a clinical toxicologist.
