Observation and patient disposition after herbicide poisoning

Specific advice on observation and patient disposition after poisoning is given for the following herbicides:

• chlorophenoxy herbicides
• glyphosate
• paraquat.

For all other herbicide poisonings, follow the advice in this monograph.

Admit patients with evidence of moderate to severe herbicide poisoning to a critical care unit.

Observe all other symptomatic patients, or patients with accidental ingestions, for at least 6 hours or, for bromoxynil-containing products, for at least 12 hours. Discharge patients who are asymptomatic at the end of the observation period.
