Management overview for hydrocarbon injection

Injections of hydrocarbons are mainly occupational accidents, but can be deliberate self-harm.

Any intravenous hydrocarbon injection is potentially toxic. If hydrocarbon injection is suspected, urgently contact a clinical toxicologist or poisons information centre (13 11 26). Any accidental high-pressure hydrocarbon injection (eg from a grease gun) is a surgical emergency.
