Practical information on using atovaquone and atovaquone+proguanil

Atovaquone+proguanil is used to prevent and treat malaria.

Atovaquone, as a single drug, is used to prevent and treat Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia (PJP) in patients who do not tolerate other therapies.

Atovaquone (with or without proguanil) should be taken with fatty food or full-fat milk to ensure adequate absorption. Consider alternative therapy for patients with severe chronic diarrhoea because absorption can be significantly reduced in these patients.
