Practical information on using mefloquine
Mefloquine is used to prevent malaria. Mefloquine is not approved for use in children in Australia (though it has been widely used).
Neuropsychiatric disturbances (eg headache, nightmares, depression, psychosis) occur infrequently, usually within the first 4 weeks of mefloquine therapy, and can continue for many months after stopping therapy.
Mefloquine can prolong the QT interval. For more information on drugs that prolong the QT interval, see the CredibleMeds website.
