Hepatitis B virus prophylaxis in immunocompromised adults without HIV infection

Immunocompromised patients are at risk of developing a severe reactivation of hepatitis B virus, and antiviral prophylaxis is indicated in some patients. For information about hepatitis B testing and prophylaxis in patients undergoing cancer chemotherapy or immunosuppression, see Hepatitis B and patients undergoing cancer chemotherapy or immunosuppression. The Australian consensus guidelines1 provide more detail.

For hepatitis B virus immunisation recommendations, see the Australian Immunisation Handbook [URL].
