Preventive health care: overview

A proactive approach to preventive health care is imperative in people with developmental disability, as they may not communicate concerns or request routine vaccinations or screening tests.

For advice on preventive health and screening at various life stages in people with developmental disability, see children, adolescents, adults or people who are ageing.

An annual comprehensive health assessment is recommended to address preventive health and identify health problems that are commonly missed in people with developmental disability. See Comprehensive health assessments for tools and funding options to enable a comprehensive health check for people with developmental disability.
