Nonpharmacological strategies for oral and genital ulcers

For patients with oral ulceration in Behçet syndrome, it is important to maintain good oral and dental hygiene, while simultaneously avoiding trauma (eg from brushing or flossing). A soft toothbrush to reduce plaque, and a nonalcohol-based mouthwash, are recommended; see Oral hygiene in the Oral and Dental guidelines.

For patients with genital ulceration in Behçet syndrome, genital hygiene may include salt baths and avoidance of irritants (eg soap, fragrance).
