Treatment for QT-interval prolongation and torsades de pointes
Measure the QT interval manually on a 12-lead ECG and use the QT-interval nomogram to assess for QT-interval prolongation and the risk of torsades de pointes.
If the QT interval is prolonged, commence continuous ECG monitoring and assess serial 12-lead ECGs. Treat electrolyte abnormalities and arrhythmias (including torsades de pointes), if present. Intravenous sodium bicarbonate is not a treatment for QT-interval prolongation.
Note: Sodium bicarbonate is not a treatment for QT-interval prolongation.
