Toxic concentration

In cases of unintentional paracetamol poisoning, the risk of harm cannot be assessed using the paracetamol toxicity treatment nomogram (Paracetamol toxicity treatment nomogram) because the nomogram has not been validated in this context (ie supratherapeutic doses).

A therapeutic serum paracetamol concentration is usually lower than 20 mg/L (132 micromol/L). If the serum paracetamol concentration is higher than this, the patient needs acetylcysteine therapy.
