Rhabdomyolysis

Treat rhabdomyolysis due to snake bite as for any other cause of rhabdomyolysis. Experience suggests that although the serum creatine kinase concentration may rise into the hundreds of thousands of units/L, the incidence of acute kidney injury is low.

Treat patients in an intensive care unit with aggressive intravenous fluid therapy, followed by maintenance intravenous fluids and close monitoring of serum electrolyte concentrations. See also Rhabdomyolysis due to poisoning.

The roles of intravenous bicarbonate therapy and plasmapheresis in the management of rhabdomyolysis due to snake bite are poorly defined.
