Clinical presentation
Intravenous injection of kerosene, naphtha, turpentine, petrol or hydrocarbon insecticides can result in febrile reactions, local tissue inflammation and systemic effects, such as hypotension, pulmonary oedema, pneumonitis and central nervous system (CNS) depression. In severe cases, multiorgan dysfunction can occur.
High-pressure hydrocarbon injection in any amount (eg from a grease gun) into soft tissues and tendon sheaths can result in severe local inflammation, infection and tissue damage.
