Recurrent benign lymphocytic meningitis
Recurrent benign lymphocytic meningitis (Mollaret meningitis) is usually caused by herpes simplex virus type 2. It has a benign self-limited course. Studies have not demonstrated a benefit for either antiviral treatment or prophylaxis; however, anecdotal experience suggests valaciclovir or famciclovir may be helpful as episodic or suppressive therapy in patients with frequent confirmed recurrences.
