Management of oral and oropharyngeal candidiasis in adults

Ensure adults with oral or oropharyngeal candidiasis practice good oral hygiene, assess them for dry mouth, and, if required, check inhaler technique and encourage stopping smoking.

Use initial topical antifungal therapy for adults with oral or oropharyngeal candidiasis. For patients with severe disease (eg multiple or confluent lesions, swallowing difficulties) or who do not respond to topical treatment, medical practitioners can consider oral antifungal therapyPappas, 2016.
