Low tech aided AAC
Non-electronic (‘low tech’) communication aids use pictures, symbols or objects that a person selects to convey a message. Examples include:
- communication boards and books
- charts that depict the person’s daily activities (eg a calendar)
- cards with written information used to access services (eg I’d like to make an appointment to have my hair cut)
- picture sequences that represent an activity or series of activities (eg attending a cultural event).
Generic ‘low tech’ or non-electronic AAC aids are available; types of communication aids and examples are given on the Scope website.
