Clonidine for vasomotor symptoms of menopause

Consider clonidine for individuals with hot flushes who also require migraine prevention. A suitable regimen is:

clonidine 25 micrograms orally, twice daily, increasing if needed every 2 weeks to a maximum of 75 micrograms twice daily. menopause, vasomotor symptoms clonidine    

Potential adverse effects of clonidine include dry mouth, difficulty urinating, and, at higher doses, dry eyes, confusion, diarrhoea and headache. The dose of clonidine used for menopausal symptoms is lower than that typically used for reduction of blood pressure.
