Common health problems
People with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) have premature mortality. On average, those without comorbid intellectual disability die 16 years younger, and those with comorbid intellectual disability die 30 years younger, than the general population.
Many behavioural, physical, neurodevelopmental and psychiatric health problems are significantly more likely to occur in people with autism spectrum disorder. When autism spectrum disorder is associated with a known genetic disorder, common health problems can also be related to the genetic disorder.
