Atomoxetine for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder in children
Atomoxetine may be used in children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) if:
- treatment with stimulants is not suitable or not tolerated
- there is a risk of misuse of stimulants (either by the child or the adult supporting the child)
- the child has comorbid motor tics, Tourette syndrome or a severe anxiety disorder.
If atomoxetine is indicated for ADHD in a child 6 years or older, use:

child 70 kg or less: 0.5 mg/kg orally, daily, as a single dose in the morning or in 2 divided doses (morning and late afternoon) for at least 3 days, then increasing according to response to a target daily dose of 1.2 mg/kg (up to 80 mg). Increase after 2 to 4 additional weeks if needed, up to a maximum daily dose of 1.4 mg/kg (up to 100 mg). See further advice on monitoring and duration of treatment
child more than 70 kg: 40 mg orally, daily, as a single dose in the morning or in 2 divided doses (morning and late afternoon) for at least 3 days, then increasing according to response to a target daily dose of 80 mg.
