Musculoskeletal disorders
Common musculoskeletal disorders in people with developmental disability include:
- scoliosis
- contractures
- hip problems (eg congenital dislocation, subluxations)
- osteoarthritis.
Musculoskeletal disorders are especially common in cerebral palsy; see Musculoskeletal conditions in people with cerebral palsy.
Musculoskeletal problems should be addressed as early as possible; for children, see also Early childhood intervention services.
For advice on optimising mobility in people with musculoskeletal problems, see Mobility problems.
